Family Therapy

Family therapy aims to strengthen families, it is an evidence-based treatment aimed at shifting "stuck" patterns of communication and interactions. Family Therapy involves the whole family, and is centred around your child or young person's mental health recovery journey.

It is used to enhance child, adolescent and adult independence; to assist families to better manage family challenges; to support families around separation, divorce and / or the re-partnering process and to provide support in times of loss, grief and trauma.

What to expect

Your Family Therapy journey begins with an intake session. During this session, the clinician will explore concerns, suitability and goals.
The Family Therapy sessions are completed weekly, over four sessions, involving a; family session, parent session, sibling session, family session. In the sessions, all voices are heard  to develop shared understandings of mental health concerns. Clinicians help to identify strengths within the family that can be used to support your child or young person moving forward and/or to improve family functioning.

Approximately four weeks after Family Therapy your clinician will reach out to you to see what changes have been made and to determine if your family needs more support.
