Michal Klein
Michal is a registered psychologist with experience in university counselling services, drug and alcohol settings, community health and private practice. She works with adults across the age span, with a passion for supporting younger adults (18-30), suffering from complex trauma, gender dysphoria and eating disorders.
At the core of Michal’s work is an emphasis on building a warm, safe and empathic relationship with her clients. Michal believes that an environment that welcomes honesty, genuineness, warmth (and at times, humour!) is the basis for growth and change. She is dedicated to helping individuals identify their strengths and resilience, as well shifting the life-long habits, patterns and worn-out cycles that often keep them feeling frustrated and stuck.
Cultivating self-awareness is the first step towards change. In a session with Michal, she will gently encourage openness and nonjudgmental curiosity to develop fresh perspective. Therapy will honour individual preferences and interests, and welcome feedback about what works in therapy, and what needs to change. Michal enjoys collaborating with her clients to identify realistic and practical steps towards healthier lifestyles. Her key goal is reinforcing a sense of resilience and empowerment.
Michal’s key areas of speciality are: depression, anxiety disorders, relationship issues, complex (childhood) trauma, eating disorders and gender identity and sexuality (including LGBTI+). Michal also has particular interest in women’s wellbeing and mind-body therapies for trauma, such as yoga therapy and EMDR.
Michal’s approach is tailored specifically to each individual and their key concerns. She draws on therapeutic styles such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Schema Therapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), CBT-E (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy enhanced for Eating Disorders) mindfulness and relaxation strategies. Her approach is trauma-informed and highly considerate of cultural and sexual diversity.
Michal is a registered provider with Medicare and private health insurers, and a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS)
